IMB has joined UMT Scientific Expedition 1st Series and carry out surveys on marine microbes  along the Straits of Malacca. The members of IMB researchers were  Dr. Jasnizat B. Saidin, Thirukanthan A/L Chandra Segaran, Julius Yong Fu Siong, Mohd Ridzuan Bin Yusof and Anderi B. Muhammad.
